Chester A Swisher

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Mark Sanders officiating. Visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Dodge Grove Cemetery, Mattoon, IL with military rites by V.F.W. Post # 4325 of Mattoon. Memorials may be given to Shelby Christian Church or Illinois Patriot Guard.
Mr. Swisher was born on March 12, 1926 in Mattoon, IL, the son of Forest H. and Sylvia Blanche Whitley Swisher. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. He retired from the Mattoon Post Office in 1973. He was a member of Shelby Christian Church in Shelbyville and a 50 year member of the Lawrence Riddle American Legion Post #88 of Mattoon. He married Barbara Jeanne Garrett on July 15, 1946.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Jeanne; son, Allen E. (Marayart) Swisher of Torrance, CA; daughters, Dian (Bill) Camic of Shelbyville and Nancy E. (Bill) Zike of Mattoon; brother, Forest Irvin “Red” Swisher of Paris, TN; sister, Lois Schwerdt of Mattoon; five grandchildren, Chanon (Tom) Mongkolthip, Matthew Swisher, Jenna Camic Shride, Jordan Camic and Philip Zike; and one great grandchild, Aidan Shride.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Floyd Swisher and Alfred “Jr.” Whitley; and sisters, Juanita Binnion, Bernadine Taylor and Rosemary Schwerdt.
