Clarence E Buesking
(March 18, 1924 – February 10, 2011)
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 12, 2011 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Strasburg. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday in the church. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Strasburg with military rites by the Strasburg American Legion Post #289. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg Community Building, or the donor’s choice.
Clarence was born on March 18, 1924 in rural Strasburg, the son of Henry and Clara (Kull) Buesking. He married Marilyn Berniece Baumgarten on June 27, 1948 in Grace Lutheran Church, Strasburg.
A World War II veteran, Clarence was assigned to the 967th Engineer Maintenance Company which built the Ledo Road through Burma into China. At the time, his was a Four Star Family, as three other brothers were also in the Army.
A retired Standard Oil agent and farmer, Clarence devoted much of his life to service in Strasburg and the surrounding area. Serving on the Strasburg Village Board from 1957- 1981, he was Village President from 1969-1981. During his leadership, Strasburg installed its first water and sewer system and built the Strasburg Community Building. A life-long member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, he was a member of the St. Paul’s Men’s Club, Strasburg American Legion Post #289, Strasburg Lions Club, Effingham VFW Post #1769, Strasburg Volunteer Firemen and also served as Trustee for Richland Township.
He is survivied by his wife, Berniece; daughter, Perrie Sue Richards (husband John) of Effingham; granddaughters, Mallory Richards and Meredith Richards both of Effingham; and sisters-in-law, Neva Buesking of Strasburg and Ruby Buesking and Ruth Buesking Reynolds both of Mattoon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lloyd, Curtis, Carl, Eugene, and Ervin; and sisters, Helen Schmitt and Neva Pikesh.
