Clinton R. Lay, Sr., 59, of Assumption, died at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2011 in Pana Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 4, 2011 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation from 12:00-1:45 p.m. Sunday with Masonic rites at 1:45 p.m. by Bromwell Masonic Lodge #451 of Assumption. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Nicholasville, KY. Memorials may be given to Bromwell Masonic Lodge #451 of Assumption or the American Diabetes Association.

Mr. Lay was born on April 13, 1952 in Lexington, KY, the son of Vertriece and Eula Callahan Lay. He was retired from GSI in Assumption, where he worked in Research and Development. He was a member of the Assumption Christian Church, Bromwell Masonic Lodge #451 of Assumption and Ansar Shrine Clown Unit of Springfield, IL. He married Karen L. Metzger on April 27, 1974 in Shelbyville, IL.

Surviving are his wife, Karen; sons, Clinton R. Lay, Jr. and wife Tracy of Springfield, IL, Christopher Lay and wife Rosemary of Downs, IL, Chad Lay and fiancée Amy Reed of Ramsey, IL and Keith Lay and wife Emily of Ankeny, IA; mother-in-law, Louise Metzger of Shelbyville, IL; brothers, Vertriece “Butch” Lay, Jr. and wife June and Robert Lay all of Nicholasville, KY; sisters, Rebecca McCarty and husband Paul and Valeria Marshall and husband Brian all of Nicholasville, KY; brother-in-law, Terry Metzger of Shelbyville, IL; eleven grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Jim Metzger; and three siblings.
