Dale Dean Wirth, 89, of Strasburg, IL, died at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2014 in Heartland Christian Village, Neoga, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 2014 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, IL with Rev. Steven Becker and Rev. Gary Fortkamp officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday and one hour before services Saturday both in the church. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Strasburg, IL. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg or Heartland Christian Village Auxiliary Fund, Neoga.

Dale was born on November 16, 1924 in Strasburg, IL, the son of Otto and Louise Stremming Wirth. He was a retired farmer and Pioneer Seed dealer. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, IL, where he served on the St. Paul’s School Board. He also was a board member of Stewardson-Strasburg CUSD 5A and a member of the Strasburg Lions Club.

He married Helen Luce on January 25, 1948. She died on June 22, 1995. He is survived by his children, Gary Wirth and wife Marlene of Sullivan, IL, Darrell Wirth and wife Laurie of Gays, IL, Dennis Wirth and wife Kenna of Gays, IL, Janet Shepard and husband Jerry of Altamont, IL and Jim Wirth and wife Cheryl of Winter Haven, FL; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

He married Geneva “Joe” Shafer on March 31, 2000. She died on December 22, 2004. He is survived by his step-children, Albert Shafer and wife Sudy of Windsor, IL, Lou Ann Butler and husband Ted of Villa Grove, IL and Ralph Shafer and wife Vicki of Mattoon, IL; and their families.

Dale is also survived by his brother, Wayne Wirth and wife Connie of Strasburg, IL; and sisters-in-law, Norma Luce of Windsor, IL and Betty Stremming and husband Robert of Strasburg, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Louise; first wife, Helen; second wife, Geneva “Joe”; brother, Howard Wirth; step-daughter, Darlene Shafer Fortkamp; and brothers-in-law, Maurice “Spud” and Ralph Luce.
