Dale Koontz, Jr.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2011 in Stewardson Cemetery, Stewardson, IL with Rev. Jim Whitaker officiating. Visitation from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Casual attire is requested. Memorials may be given to Shelby Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Koontz was born on June 4, 1941 in Stewardson, IL, the son of Horace Dale and Wilma Brandt Koontz, Sr. He graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School in the Class of 1959. He married Arlene Bauer on May 29, 1960 in Strasburg, IL. Dale began working for Norge in Effingham, IL and then Biehler’s Hatchery in Windsor, IL. In 1966 they moved to a farm near Lakewood, IL. Dale was a dairy farmer for Prairie Farms Dairy from 1966-1986 and a grain and livestock farmer until his retirement in 2004. He had a private pilot’s license for many years and was a member of the Flying Farmers Club. Dale was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed watching his granddaughter play softball.
Surviving are his wife, Arlene; daughter, Kim Largen and husband Rick of Lakewood, IL; son, Steve Koontz and wife Susan of Lakewood, IL; brothers, John Koontz and wife Lillias of Choctaw, OK and Howard Koontz and wife Nancy of Stewardson, IL; sisters, Maxine Mayberry and husband Zane of Shumway, IL, Margaret Allsop of Beecher City, IL, Marilyn Koontz of Shumway, IL, and Arlene Doehring and husband Richard of Stewardson, IL; sisters-in-law, Nelda Koontz of Lakewood, IL and Wanda Koontz of Stewardson, IL; and one granddaughter, Torre A. Koontz of Lakewood, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James and Dwane Koontz; and brother-in-law, Dale Allsop.
