David F. Mulvaney, 86, of Shelbyville, IL, died Sunday, November 2, 2014 at 4:20 a.m. in Shelbyville Manor.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2014 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL, with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday with Masonic rites at 7:00 p.m. by Jackson Masonic Lodge #53 of Shelbyville, IL. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church of Shelbyville, IL.

David was born on August 30, 1928 in Lovington, IL, the son of Charles and Nina Neff Mulvaney. He served in the Army National Guard and was deployed to Japan during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Caterpillar, Inc. in Peoria, IL, Oliver Corporation in Shelbyville, IL and in 1971 became employed by the Norfolk Southern Railway Company in Decatur, IL. David retired from the railroad on March 22, 1996 after 25 years of service. He also farmed in the Shelbyville area for many years. David was a life member of Jackson Masonic Lodge #53 in Shelbyville, IL, a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Valley of Springfield, IL, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite. He married Frances D. Hilvety on November 15, 1958. She died on February 15, 1987.

He is survived by his daughters, Charlotte Spurgeon and husband Mitch of Cuba, MO and Sara Chance and husband Ron of Good Hope, IL; daughter-in-law, Kathy Mulvaney of Shelbyville, IL; granddaughter, Blair Mulvaney of St. Louis, MO; sisters, Mary Childress of Trilla, IL, Owen Phelps and husband Adrian of Mattoon, IL, Lela Friese and husband Donald of Stewardson, IL and Emily Young of Vandalia, IL; sister-in-law, Shirley Hilvety of Herrick, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Frances; son, Chuck Mulvaney on June 17, 2014; and brothers-in-law, Dean Childress, Dale Young and Gene “Tobe” Hilvety.
