David Lacy Mochel, 66, of Shelbyville, died at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2009 in his residence.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2009 in the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville with Gary Crowder and Rev. Lee Lovett officiating. A time of sharing for family and friends will be held in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery with graveside services at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday for the family and military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to the Shelby Humane Society, Shelbyville Festival of Lights or the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville.

David was born on December 18, 1942 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Carl Martin and Thelma Lacy Mochel. He was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville, where he served as recording secretary of the administrative board. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1961 and attended Southern Illinois University and Sparks College. He began working for Morehead’s/Waggoner’s Men’s Clothing Stores in high school and continued for many years as a part time employee. He served in the U.S. Army. He worked in payroll and data processing at Firestone and was employed by the City of Shelbyville and Shelbyville Manor. He also worked at Perry Thomas/Ridings-Xamis and Boarman’s auto dealerships. He served as Secretary/Club Manager of the Shelbyville Moose Lodge # 1294, where he was a longtime member.

David was a lifelong CUBS fan and always believed in “Wait ‘til Next Year”.

He is survived by his son, Mark Mochel and wife Mary and grandchildren, Kali and Alexander all of Grand Rapids, MI; sister, Shirley Westenhaver of Shelbyville; aunt, Bertha Elliott of Mt. Zion; numerous nephews and nieces; great nephews and nieces; and great-great nephews and nieces. He also leaves his best friend, Toby.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Nancy Beaumont and Jerri “Bimbi” Hinsley; and brother-in-law, Bob “Wessy” Westenhaver.
