David R White
(December 14, 1925 – February 19, 2014)
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 22, 2014 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church of Shelbyville, IL.
Mr. White was born on December 14, 1925 in Decatur, IL, the son of Homer and Bessie Zelma Smith White. He graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in the Class of 1943. David was a U. S. Army Air Force veteran of WW II. He was a tail gunner on a B-24 Liberator in the 15th Air Force in Italy. When he returned from the service, he worked with his father Homer and brothers Jim and Sam, at H.E. White and Sons in Shelbyville. He later co-owned White’s Sheet Metal with his brother Jim. David was also a volunteer fireman for the Shelbyville Fire Protection District for many years. He was a member of the First Christian Church, V.F.W. Post #4829, Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81, Jackson Masonic Lodge #53, Order of Easter Star Chapter #69 and Kiwanis all of Shelbyville and White Shrine of Jerusalem #52. David was a master craftsman in working with metal, stained glass, wood and stone. He married Shirley L. Poland on October 13, 1945.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; son, David Michael White and wife Joni of Shelbyville; daughters, Marsha Ellen White of Shelbyville, Marla Elaine Firnhaber and husband Dutch of Shelbyville and Leslie Alice Beckett and husband Kevin of Ivesdale, IL; brothers, Jim White and wife Wanda of Shelbyville and Sam White and wife Audrey of Parowan, UT; sister, Ruth Goulden of Sumner, IA; grandchildren, Martha Firnhaber, Erica Firnhaber, Matthew Firnhaber and wife Shonna, Heather Cloe and husband Matt, Tara White and Jef White; and great grandchildren, Caine Cloe, Jensen Cloe, Caleb Cloe, Hannah Firnhaber, Kelby Firnhaber, Parker Firnhaber, Phoenix Firnhaber, Obadiah Kaiser and Abigail Kaiser.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul White; and sisters, Esther Jay and Mary Smith.
