Dean Childress

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014 in Grace Cemetery, Strasburg, IL with Pastor James Maroon officiating. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL.
Dean was born on November 29, 1921 in Strasburg, IL, the son of Luther and Annabelle (Richards) Childress. He was a decorated WW II veteran serving as a medical technician in the Army Air Force. He began working for the Oliver Corporation in Shelbyville, IL and later became a carpenter by trade, working for The Reasor Corporation in Charleston, IL. Dean loved to fish, camp and garden. He was a member of the American Legion Post #88 and V.F. W. Post # 4325 both in Mattoon, IL. He married Mary Mulvaney on September 13, 1947.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Terry Childress (Cheryl) of Mattoon, IL; daughters, Mickey Childress of Mattoon, IL and Jeanie Thornton (Denny) of Trilla, IL; five grandchildren; and seven and a half great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roy Childress; twin brother, Gene Childress; and sisters, Juanita Klump and Lois Manning.
