Dee Ann (Akers) Burns, 52, of Windsor, formerly of Sullivan, died at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, October 4, 2011 in Mattoon Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.

In keeping with Dee Ann’s wishes her body was donated to science. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2011 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation one hour before services on Saturday. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association. Send condolences at www.howeandyockey.com

Dee Ann was born on May 23, 1959 in St. Charles, IL, the daughter of Bennie Duane “Red” and Barbara Hutchens Akers. She attended Shelbyville High School and was a member of the Class of 1978. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She married Dennis Burns. She later married Duane Franklin and they owned and operated Center Stage Music Store in Sullivan.

Surviving are her son, Matthew Burns of Sullivan; mother, Barbara Akers Greenwood of Shelbyville; brother, Martin Akers of Wixom, Michigan; sisters, Janet Foster of Shelbyville and Amy Hafner of Pinckney, Michigan; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Steve Crowe of Windsor.

She was preceded in death by her father, “Red” Akers; and brother, Timothy Akers.
