Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Pastor Greg Breeden officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday and one hour before service time on Tuesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Dennis was born on January 28, 1957 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Julian and Eva Baker Ross. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1975. Dennis earned his Associate Degree from Lake Land College and his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Illinois. Dennis was a VP of Business Banking at Peoples Bank and Trust of Pana, IL for the last six years. He retired as VP of Financial Services from Farm Credit Services in Shelbyville after 27 years and was a crop insurance specialist for many years. He farmed with his father and brother all of his life. Dennis was a member of University of Illinois Alumni Association and a member and past president of Shelbyville FFA Alumni Association. He enjoyed mowing his yards, plowing snow, walking, getting up early to read the newspaper and watching history documentaries. He was an avid fan of University of Illinois basketball and the Atlanta Braves. Dennis collected Antique Tractors and Abraham Lincoln Historical Memorabilia. He married Kendra Murphy on July 5, 1980.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of almost 34 years, Kendra; daughters, Kristin (John) O’Brien of Nashville, TN and Kassie Ross of Edwardsville, IL; grandson, Jack Ross O’Brien of Nashville, TN; brother, James Ross of Shelbyville, IL; sisters, Lila (Jerry) Birchfield of Elgin, IL and Valerie (David) Cowgill of Mt. Zion, IL; uncle, Richard (Katie) Ross of Shelbyville, IL; father-in-law, Louis (Doris) Murphy of Shelbyville, IL; brother-in-law, Kent (Christy) Murphy of Shelbyville, IL; nieces and nephews, Laura, Jonathan (Emily), Lindsay, Jordan and Jeff Birchfield, Bob and Jason Cowgill and Rylan and Layton Murphy; and his beloved “canine son”, Murphy “Budd”.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and mother-in-law, Carol Roley Murphy.
