Dirk was born on October 22, 1954, in Shelbyville, IL, the son of C. Elbert and Jewell Eileen (Powers) Isley. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1972 and went on to attend Lake Land College in Mattoon, IL. Dirk began helping his father on the farm and became a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Illinois State Rifle Association. In his spare time, Dirk enjoyed attending antique tractor shows and riding his Harley with Brad and Dave.
Dirk was a man of many and varied interests and talents, from antique farm equipment to muscle cars to firearms. He was a walking history book when it came to aviation and military history. Dirk could be seen engrossed in reading the plaques under an exhibit, taking pictures with an ever-present camera, or talking to fellow enthusiasts. Dirk didn't really know any strangers as he could find something to talk about with almost anyone he met. Dirk may have been of small stature, but he had a big heart and would always lend a hand to those around him. Dirk loved his family and friends deeply and with loyalty rarely seen today. Dirk was a firm believer in Jesus Christ and lived out his faith in his strong moral code and integrity.
Dirk is survived by his two sons, Adam Isley and wife Jessica of Chatham, IL, and Evan Isley and wife Kelsey of Murphysboro, IL; brother, Dennis Isley and wife Kathy of Shelbyville, IL; and three grandchildren, Ben, Holly, and Rowan Isley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, David Elbert Isley in infancy.
