Dolores Jean Storm, 88, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 11:46 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, 2017 in Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 9, 2017 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the Shelby County Art Show.

Dolores was born on November 21, 1928 in Terre Haute, IN, the daughter of Lloyd Walter and Mary Edith Hamilton Shirley. She graduated from Mattoon High School and then continued her education at Eastern Illinois University, earning degrees in both Art and Education. Dolores was a school teacher in Findlay and Cowden, IL, before becoming an art teacher in the schools at Shumway and Beecher City, IL for over 20 years. She later was a substitute teacher for the Shelbyville Community Unit School District. Dolores was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville, a former member of the First Christian Church of Shelbyville and was active in the Shelby County Retired Teacher Association. She enjoyed painting, sculpting, demonstrating at the annual art show, playing the harp, playing the keyboards for her fellow residents at Hawthorne Inn, participating in bible studies, camping in the Smoky Mountains with her family, serving on the Lincoln Thornton Debate Statue committee and assisting with the Republican National Committee. She married Freeman Ludwell “Lud” Storm on August 28, 1949. He died on December 12, 2009.

She is survived by her daughters, Gretchen Geer (David) of Shelbyville, IL, Rhonda Storm of Evanston, IL and Elaine McBride (Tom) of Bridgewater, MA; son, Kevin Storm of Shelbyville, IL; sister, Marilyn Shirley of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Brandon Geer, Maleah Geer, Michelle Geer, Joseph McBride, Mary McBride, Molly Persona (Thomas), Nolan Shikanai and Avery Shikanai; and great grandchildren, Kaylee Geer, David Geer, Alana Geer, Kylie Gordon, Emmie Heavey and Dahlia McBride.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Lud.
