Don M. Keller, 84, of Strasburg, was called to his Heavenly Home to be with his loving wife of 59 ½ years, Mary, at 4:43 p.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2011 in St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2011 in Grace Lutheran Church in Strasburg with Rev. Michael Mohr officiating. Visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL. Burial will be in Grace Lutheran Cemetery with military rites by Strasburg American Legion Post #289. Memorials may be given to Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Strasburg American Legion Post #289 or Strasburg Lions Club.

Mr. Keller was born on May 15, 1927 in Strasburg, Illinois, the son of W.O. “Slats” and Opal A. Kull Keller. He graduated from Strasburg High School in the class of 1945. Mr. Keller served in the Navy Seabees in WWII. He married Mary Fudge on July 13, 1947. Don was a member of the Strasburg American Legion Post #289, former member of the Strasburg Fire Department, charter member of the Strasburg Lions Club, served on the Village of Strasburg Board. Don was a Farm Bureau Member and served as Country Companies Insurance Agent for many years.

Don enjoyed popping popcorn at the Strasburg Ball Park for the baseball games, playing cards, spending winters in Florida and watching his grandkids and great grandkids grow up. Grandpa “Buddy” was their name for him and he truly was their buddy.

Surviving are his daughter, Pat Wallace and husband Donnie of Strasburg; grandchildren, Rick Wallace of Strasburg and Kim Storm and husband Brad of Lakewood; great grandchildren, Emmalee Katherine and Ella Catherine Storm; several nieces and nephews; sister, Gail Rentfro of Neoga; and special friends, Bill Engel and “Frosty” and Ginger Yakey.

Gone before him in death are his parents, W.O. “Slats” and Opal Keller; wife, Mary on November 2, 2006; brothers, Ivan and Junior Keller; and sister, Ruth Thurman.
