Donald E Martin
(August 25, 1918 – March 13, 2019)
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2019 in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Randy Miller officiating and military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Monday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Lincolnland Hospice.
Donald was born on August 25, 1918 in Brookport, IL, the son of Guy and Helen (Lynn) Martin. He enrolled in the Civilian Conservation Corps on July 21, 1937 in Murphysboro, IL. He then entered the U.S. Navy on September 3, 1943 and was a veteran of WW II. Donald worked as a welder for Garwood Industries in Mattoon, IL and then for P & H Manufacturing in Shelbyville, IL, where he retired as a machine shop foreman. Donald was a member of Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81 and VFW Post #4829 both of Shelbyville, IL and was affiliated with Knobs Baptist Church, near Tower Hill, IL. He married Betty Ione Griffin on May 21, 1941. She died on February 13, 2008.
He is survived by his son, Larry E. Martin of Neoga, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; daughter-in-law, Jackie Martin; five brothers, Fran, Jim, Lynn, Ray and Robert Martin; and sister, Lil Martin.
