Donald R Jones

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday October 9, 2009 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Jim Whitaker officiating. Visitation from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society or American SIDS Institute.
Don was born on June 12, 1932, in Shelby County, the son of Hobart and Ruth Biggs Jones. He was a graduate of Findlay High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked for Culligan, F. S., Neely Ford, Bitzer Taggart and Don Jones Auto Sales. He raised horses and sheep, showing and judging them at fairs and shows. He was an avid gardener. He restored John Deere and Ford tractors and drove them in tractor drives. He restored a John Deere tractor, the “A”, his father had used on the farm. He loved to camp, fish and cook out for his family. He was fondly known by many names including Honest Pod, Skinner, Jonesy. He could and did sell everything to anyone.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy; son, Alan Jones and wife Karen of Clarksburg: daughters, Donna Giberson and husband Jerry of Shelbyville and Michelle Organ and husband Dan of Shelbyville, brother; Bob Jones of Shelbyville, grandchildren, Joshua Jones, Jamison Jones, Jordan Jones, Christle Watson, Heather Welch, Tiffany Cash, Kristina Giberson, Amanda Faingnaert, great grandchildren, Daniel Watson, Brooklyn Watson, James Duffy, Ben Welch, nieces: Shawna Lough, Debbie Oliver, Vicki May: nephew, Jim Perry, and very special friend; Stacy Prosser.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Betty Collins; great granddaughter, Keira Donn Watson; niece, Connie Ferguson; nephew, Mike Jones.
