Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 30, 2018 in Findlay United Methodist Church, Findlay, IL with Dr. Joel Hackney officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will be in Wright Cemetery, Findlay, IL with military rites by the Clarence Bixler American Legion Post of Findlay, IL. Memorials may be given to Findlay United Methodist Church, Findlay, IL, Okaw Valley FFA Alumni Foundation, or the Findlay Community Center. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.
Don was born on January 8, 1933 in rural Dalton City, IL, the son of J. D. and Freda Lucile (Walters) Keown. He graduated from Findlay High School in the Class of 1950 and then served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He was a lifelong farmer, Okaw Twp. Road Commissioner for 20 years and custodian of the Okaw Valley Middle School for 10 years. Don was a member of Findlay United Methodist Church and Clarence Bixler American Legion Post both of Findlay, IL, Shelby Co. Farm Bureau, Prairie Heritage Antique Tractor Drive Club, and Founding Member of both the Findlay FFA Chapter in 1948 and the Okaw Valley FFA Alumi. He enjoyed collecting antique tractors and antique hatchets. Don married Bonnie Gale Pyles on July 4, 1955 in Findlay, IL.
Donald is survived by his wife, Bonnie of Findlay, IL; daughters, Cindy Lucile Gollus of Findlay, IL and Vickie Lynn Welton of Shelbyville, IL; son, David Robert Keown (Christie) of Findlay, IL; grandchildren, Marisa Gollus, Heather Wiley (James), Brock Nichols (Courtney), Amber Nichols, Tanner Martin, Matt Keown, and Orrin Keown; great grandchildren, Taylor and Luke Harlin, Ty and Cole Nichols, Mercedes Tolliver, and Mason and Madilyn Price; great great grandchild, Landon Brown; sisters; Doris Matlock of Shelbyville, IL and Linda Getz (Jack) of Findlay, IL; brother, Larry Keown (Ruth Ann) of Lakewood, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Don Matlock.
