Private family graveside services will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 in Bethel Cemetery near Findlay, IL with Retha Orr officiating and military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Wounded Warrior Project and mailed to Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, 415 North Broadway, Shelbyville, IL 62565.
Don was born July 8, 1932 in Lakewood Township to Quimby “Jack” and Edna (Jordan) Hanson. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 and was a Korean War veteran. He married Freida May Turney on July 25, 1964. Don worked in the foundry at Wagner Castings in Decatur, IL for over 30 years and was an avid outdoorsman.
He is survived by special nieces, Cheryl Welton and family of Shelbyville, IL, and Lisa Wigness (Craig) and family of Bethany, IL, who cared for him. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom he dearly loved. The family would also like to thank his chore girl, Debbie Ford of Shelbyville, IL for her love and friendship.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Freida on March 13, 2005; parents; infant brother; sister, Maurine Welton; and special companion, June West.
