Doris Ann Cazel

Doris Ann Cazel, 83, of Sullivan, IL, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2025, at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL, with Rev. Bob Vail officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2025, in the funeral home. Burial will be in Brunswick Cemetery, Westervelt, IL. Memorials may be given to the Sullivan Fire Department. 

Doris was born on December 27, 1941, near Westervelt, IL, the daughter of John William “Bill” and Florence Oney (Summers) Stretch. She graduated from Findlay High School in 1960 and earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. Doris married Richard W. “Dick” Cazel in 1964, in Westervelt, IL. She began working as a substitute teacher, and later taught grade school in Arthur and Romeoville, IL. She returned to central Illinois and worked as a librarian in the Lovington school district. Doris finished her career in education at Sullivan Elementary School, where she taught first grade. Doris enjoyed yardwork, gardening, and could often be found at local yard sales. She was a member of Allenville Christian Church and was always willing to help anyone in need.

Doris is survived by her son, John Wesley Cazel of Sullivan, IL; daughter, Maria Goad (Tim) of Sullivan, IL; brothers, Oscar, Tom, and Gary; sisters, Elsie, Carol, and Leota; two grandchildren, Hannah Blair Bonebrake (Kaleb) of Windsor, IL, and Noah Wayne Goad of Sullivan, IL; and two great grandchildren, Blair and Beau Bonebrake of Windsor, IL. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick; brothers, Monte and Dale; and sister, Emma.
