Doris J Gregg

A service to celebrate the life of Doris Gregg will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 26, 2017 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Linda Trent officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30-2:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Shelbyville, IL or Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur, IL.
Doris was born on January 20, 1934 in Lakewood, IL, the daughter of Cecil James and Mabel Marie (Hayward) Sherwood. She was a graduate of Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1951 and Sparks Business College. After college, Doris began working at Shelby Loan and Trust in Shelbyville, IL. She married Jesse Clifford “J.C.” Gregg on March 7, 1963. Doris then helped her husband on their farm southeast of Shelbyville. She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church near Shelbyville and enjoyed reading, having lunch with her friends, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Diana Freeman and husband John of Decatur, IL; two grandchildren, Hailee Freeman of Decatur, IL and her fiancé Matt Whetstone and Ian Freeman of Oxford, MS; sisters-in-law, Maxine Gregg and JoAnn Gregg both of Shelbyville, IL; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J. C. Gregg on February 8, 1992; brothers-in-law, Walter Gregg, Leon Gregg, Virgil Gregg and in infancy, Joe Gregg; and sister-in-law, Pauline Reid.
