Dorothy Lucille Shafer, 90, of Windsor, IL died at 10:25 p.m. on Friday, November 1st, 2013 at Shelby Memorial Hospital, Shelbyville, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM. Tuesday, November 5th, 2013 in Windsor Christian Church, Windsor, IL with Richard Eident officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 11:00 on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Windsor Cemetery, Windsor, IL. Arrangements are by Howe Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the Windsor Christian Church or Windsor American Legion Auxiliary #725.

Dorothy was born on March 26th, 1923 at the Black Horse Inn, a home south of Windsor, IL. and was the daughter of Charles W. A. and Sarah Elizabeth Lovins Juhnke. She graduated from Windsor High School in 1940 and later from Sparks Business College in Shelbyville, IL. Dorothy married her high school sweetheart Delmar Clem Shafer on August 29th, 1942. She worked as a secretary, cashier, and stenographer at Coles Moultrie Electric Cooperative, but left her position upon Delmar�s return from World War II to raise her two children. Dorothy later became a secretary at the Windsor Christian Church and at the Windsor Grade School. She had a great love for working with children and thought them all to be very special.

Dorothy was a lifetime active member of the Windsor Christian Church and an active member of the Windsor Chapter of the American Legion Auxiliary #725.

Dorothy is survived by her two children, Karen Schwerman and husband David of Shelbyville, IL and Gary Shafer and wife Susan of Naperville, IL; grandchildren Jim Schwerman and wife Valerie of Shelbyville, IL, Krista Ewerks and husband Keith of Philo, IL, Amy MacLean and husband Matthew of Birmingham , MI and Amanda Berthoud and husband Michael of Golden Valley, MN; and great grandchildren, Zechariah and Megan Schwerman, Kalynne, Kourtney, and Karson Ewerks, Matthew, Thomas, and Patrick MacLean, and Peter, Daniel, and Katherine Berthoud.

Her husband, Delmar, preceded her in death by only nine months, after 70 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, William Bill Juhnke; and sister, Helen Juhnke Klepzig.

Dorothy was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
