Dwane A Shaffer

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2016 in the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville or Gideons International.
Dwane was born on August 7, 1923 in Shelby County, IL, the son of Willard and Esther York Shaffer. He was a graduate of Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1940 and was a member of the National Honor Society. Dwane farmed near Shelbyville, IL and received the “Farmer of the Year Award” at the Annual Shelby County Farm/City Banquet. He was a Charter Member of F.S., a former 4-H leader of the John Jordan Jaybirds and was involved in many other agriculture related organizations. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville where he was a Sunday school teacher and was active in Methodist Men and Prison Ministries. Dwane was also a member of the Shelbyland Camp of Gideons International and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He married Pearl Joy Drake on February 22, 1942 in the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville, IL. She died on November 4, 2014.
He is survived by his son, Jim Shaffer (Sandy) of Shelbyville, IL; daughters, Donna Worcester (Peter) of San Diego, CA and Carol Hurley of Shelbyville, IL; sister-in-law, Vivian Drake of Charlotte, SC; seven grandchildren, Mike Shaffer (Kathy) of Mattoon, IL, Steve Shaffer (Stacy) of Crystal Lake, IL, Christy Shaffer (Ryan Zumbahlen) of Indianapolis, IN, Matthew Worcester (Elizabeth) of Center Moriches, NY, Bryce Worcester (Aditi) of San Diego, CA, Margaret Hurley (Cameron) of Urbana, IL and Andrew Hurley of Shelbyville, IL; nine great grandchildren, Megan and Cassy Shaffer, Brendan, Ashton and Peyton Shaffer, Jack, Ellis and Cate Worcester and Nina Worcester; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pearl; brother, Dwight Shaffer (Thelma); and sisters, Mary Walden (Aubrey) and Betty Milligan (Bill).
