Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 2015 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, IL with Rev. Steven Becker officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the church. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Strasburg, IL with military rites by the Strasburg American Legion Post #289. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, American Cancer Society or Donor’s Choice.
Dwight was born on January 11, 1925 in Plain City, OH, the son of Edward H. and Cora L. Ruff Ostermeier. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II, serving in 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division. Dwight served in the Normandy and Rhineland Campaigns and received a European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Two Bronze Stars and also a Purple Heart Medal. When he returned from the service, he began working for the Illinois State Police. His career spanned 30 years, working in both District 12 and District 10. Dwight was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Strasburg, IL and the Strasburg American Legion Post #289. He married Lela M. Doeding on October 5, 1947.
He is survived by his wife Lela; son, Mark Edward Ostermeier and wife Barb of Bella Vista, AR; granddaughters, Jennifer Ostermeier of Independence, KY and Kimberly Van Oosten and husband Chris of St. Louis, MO; and two great grandsons, Adam Ostermeier and Chase Van Oosten.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Dean Eugene Ostermeier.
