Edana Mae Karnes, 71, of Taylorville, formerly of the Shelbyville and Pana area, died at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 7, 2012 in Meadow Manor, Taylorville, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 10, 2012 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Pastor Kurt Feneley officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Tower Hill Cemetery, Tower Hill, IL. Memorials may be given to the Gideons International.

Edana was born on April 3, 1941 in Pana, IL, the daughter of J. Fred and Frances Acre Hostetler. She was raised in Shelbyville, IL by her maternal grandmother, Edana L. Acre. Edana will always be remembered as a kind and gentle care giver to children living in the Shelbyville area. While living in Pana and Taylorville, she was a full time care giver to the elderly. She was a former member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Shelbyville, IL and taught Sunday school for many years.

She is survived by her daughter, Veronica (Scott) Jones of Foley, AL; sisters, Diane (Ray) Largent of Pana, IL and Joyce (Arville) Thompson of Tower Hill, IL; half-sister, Donna Stephens West of Pana, IL; half-brother, Herald Stephens of Pana, IL; step-sisters, Fanny (Dean) Urfer of Tower Hill, IL and Ruby Buesking of Mattoon, IL: step-brothers, Peter Spracklen of Pana, IL, Roy Spracklen of Thomasboro, IL, George Spracklen of St. Charles, MO and Paul Spracklen of Wauchula, FL; grandchildren, Tiffany Bush of Foley, AL, Teri Bush of Pawnee, IL and James Johnson of Taylorville, IL; and great grandchildren, James Jonas, Alexis Allard and Aiden Allard all of Pawnee, IL.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Edana L. Acre; father and step-mother, J. Fred and Maribelle Hostetler; mother and step-father, Frances and Gene Stephens; brothers, Fred and Richard Hostetler; and half-brother, Kenneth Stephens.
