Edward E. Newhart, 83, of Shelbyville, died at 3:19 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2009 in Shelby Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 27, 2009 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Gary Crowder officiating. Visitation from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Friday. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday in Edgar Cemetery, Paris, IL. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, TN.

Mr. Newhart was born on August 30, 1926 in Edgar County, Illinois, the son of Willoughby and Lelia McCallister Newhart. He graduated from Redmond High School in the Class of 1944. Ed was a lead storeroom man for CIPS in Mattoon, IL, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville and a former member of the Shelbyville Lions Club. Ed was a former scoutmaster and member of the Odd Fellows Lodge both in Paris, IL. He married Rosemarie Vicory on July 2, 1946.

Surviving are his wife, Rosemarie; sons, Randy Newhart and wife Chris of Rockford, IL and Rick L. Newhart and wife Cathy of Carterville, IL; daughter, Kimberly E. Sparks and husband Jim of Shelbyville; brothers, Larry Newhart of Paris, IL and Roger Newhart of Edgar County, IL; sister, Betty Graham of Clay City, IN; five grandchildren, Michelle Newhart, Matt Newhart, Ryan Newhart, Skylar Sparks and Alex Sparks; and three great grandchildren, Liam Newhart, Max Newhart and Harrison Newhart.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rhonda L. Newhart; brothers, Charlie Newhart and Floyd Newhart; and sisters, Freida Welch, Zella Faye Smitley and Ruth Ann Tessman.
