Eldo C Tate
(May 28, 1923 – October 22, 2008)
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2008 in Trinity Lutheran Church in Stewardson with Rev. Richard Bremer officiating. A private family visitation will be held on Friday. Burial will be in Stewardson Cemetery with military rites by Wilbur Broughton American Legion Post #611 of Stewardson. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church of Stewardson or the Stewardson Veterans’ Memorial Fund.
Mr. Tate was born on May 28, 1923 in Strasburg, Illinois, the son of William F. and Pauline E. Schmitt Tate. He married Marie E. Fouste on November 24, 1943. He served in the United States Army in the European Theater during WW II. After returning from the war he worked at the Oliver Corporation in Shelbyville and for H.H. Ulmer Oliver Sales in Stewardson. In 1961 he purchased the Oliver dealership in Stewardson and retired from Tate Farm Equipment, Inc. in 1984. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, woodworking, and visiting with people. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Stewardson, Wilbur Broughton American Legion Post # 611 of Stewardson, and the Effingham Men’s Bowling Association.
Surviving are his wife, Marie; son, Donald E. (Sharon) Tate of Stewardson; daughter, Dana M. (Rick) Keller of Effingham; grandchildren, Christine (Brad) Slifer, Jennifer (James) Dorfler, Katherine (Mark) Mette and Benjamin, Brendan, and Blair Keller; and great grandchildren, Dylan Slifer, Allison Dorfler, Derek Slifer, Jack Dorfler, and Kendal Mette.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dean and Max Tate; and two sisters, Ruth Volkman and Grace Augustine.
