Ellen Kay Poolo, 51, of Shelbyville, IL, formerly of Windsor, IL, died at 11:55 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2014 in St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Friday, March 7, 2014 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Dan Seibert officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. – noon on Friday. A luncheon will follow the service in the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association.

Ellen was born on April 3, 1962 in Shelbyville, IL the daughter of William Dean and Linda Marie Hubbartt Schwenker. She graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1980. Ellen earned her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and provided in-home care. She also worked at the Windsor IGA, Windsor Café and The Hilltop and 9th Street Diner both in Shelbyville. Ellen attended the First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville. Ellen enjoyed spending time with her son, Cody, and her nieces and nephews. She married Christopher Poolo on February 10, 2004. He died on August 18, 2004.

She is survived by her son, Cody Cole of Shelbyville, IL; step-daughter, Keli Gibson Gullett (Ryan) of Charleston, IL; father and step-mother, William “Bill” and Pat Schwenker of Lakewood, IL; grandmother, Inez Compton of Lakewood, IL; brothers, Troy Hale of Sullivan, IL, Jim Schwenker (Valorie) of Cowden, IL and John Schwenker (Tracy) of Mode, IL; sisters, Nicole Hale of Decatur, IL, D. J. Hale (Trashonn Moore) of Sullivan, IL and Jackie Campbell (Sean) of Shelbyville, IL; step-granddaughter, Hailey Gullett of Charleston, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher; and mother and step-father, Linda and Harold Hale.
