Elza C Durbin

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 24, 2012 in Windsor Christian Church with Rev. Richard Eident officiating. Visitation from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday in the church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL. Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to Windsor Christian Church or American Cancer Society.
Elza was born on March 24, 1934 in Fayette County, IL, the son of Jesse R. and Ruby G. Hopper Durbin. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1952. Elza was a dairy farmer for many years in Richland Township, east of Shelbyville. He continued grain and livestock farming and remained active helping Jesse and Wesley farm after he retired. He was a member of the Windsor Christian Church, Shelby County Farm Bureau and Shelby County Pork Producers. In the 1960’s, Elza was active in the Shelby County Civil Air Patrol. He married Florence R. Shuff on August 22, 1954 in Shelbyville, IL.
He is survived by his wife, Florence; son, Jesse Durbin and wife Glenda of Shelbyville, IL; daughters, Kathy Galenski and husband David of Milford, OH, Karen Poe of Shelbyville, IL and Cindy Durbin (friend Jeff Wible) of Champaign, IL; brother, Revis Durbin and wife Pat of Shelbyville, IL; grandson, Wesley Durbin and wife Sara of Shelbyville, IL; granddaughters, Erika Carter and husband Billy of Decatur, IL, Deann Poe of Decatur, Jessica Williams and husband Trey of Killeen, TX, Lisa Galenski (fiancé Alan Moore) of Batavia, OH and Katelyn Durbin (friend Brian Brown) of Shelbyville, IL; and great grandchildren, Madison Williams, Audrey Durbin and Andrew Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Raymond, Richard and Billy Durbin; and grandson, Curtis Edward Durbin.
