Ethel I. Pfeiffer, 99, of Shelbyville, IL, died at 10:05 p.m. Monday, February 6, 2012 in Hawthorne Inn, Shelbyville, IL.

Ethel was born April 13, 1912 in Canby City, Minnesota the daughter of William and Laura DeWeese McNeese.

She married Arthur W. (Art) Pfeiffer on October, 19, 1929 in Shelbyville, Illinois. Art passed away February 25, 1990.

Ethel was first and foremost a loving homemaker for her family. She was a member of the Shelby County Home Extension and St. John’s Lutheran Church, where for many years she taught Sunday school, vacation bible school and was active in Ladies Aid. She loved to paint and was a talented artist. Ethel taught art classes for many local aspiring artists and was active in the Shelby County Art Show. She won many awards for her artwork and sold her paintings throughout the United States. She enjoyed music and loved to dance. Ethel learned to play the organ in her seventies, taking lessons and playing for her own enjoyment. Ethel possessed an inquisitive and creative mind, and lived her life with zest. She liked traveling and the excitement of new experiences. She enjoyed the company of her friends, the personal fulfillment of her many accomplishments, but her family was always the source of her greatest joy.

Surviving are a son, Lowell Dean (Bud) Pfeiffer of Sebring, Florida; daughters: Jenell Allen and husband Robert of Shelbyville, Ardith Wakefield and husband Ross of Lemont, Illinois and Vickie Weyand and husband Jon of Josephine, Alabama; foster child Richard Halbrook and wife Wanda of Fayetteville, Arkansas; grandchildren: Larry Dean Pfeiffer and wife Jan, Patty Chrisman and husband Bill, Chuck Juhnke and wife Amy, Scott Juhnke and wife Renee, Bryan Wright and wife Ruthe, Lindsay Briski and husband Robert and Randi Wakefield; and great grandchildren: Lane Pfeiffer, Eric Pfeiffer, Ben Chrisman, Katie Chrisman, Dylan Juhnke, Haden Wright, Nolen Wright, Brent Briski and Audrey Ethel Briski.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, her parents, her daughter Carol Wright, her daughter-in-law, Evie Pfeiffer, grandchildren: Gregory Juhnke, Darla Juhnke, Keith Juhnke and Jon Powell Weyand; great grandson Lucas Juhnke; brothers and sisters: Sam McNeese, Charles(Buck) McNeese, John McNeese, Stella Pinkston, Bessie Waymire, Ida Belle McDonald, Fern Bray, Mabel Hendrickson and Lizzie McNeese.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2012 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ethel Pfeiffer Art Scholarship c/o Shelbyville Education Foundation, 720 W. Main, Shelbyville, IL 62565 or to St. John’s Lutheran Church, RR #3, Box 61, Shelbyville, IL 62565.
