Eugene D. “Gene” Wooters, 77, of Findlay, IL passed away at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2020 in OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center, Urbana, IL.

A graveside service for family and friends will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 3, 2020 in Wright Cemetery, near Findlay, IL with Pastor Mike Reynolds officiating. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to Faith Covenant Church, Findlay, IL and mailed to Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, 415 North Broadway, Shelbyville, IL 62565.

Gene was born on September 29, 1943 in Springfield, IL. He was the son of Glenn Curtis and Mary Jane (Wycoff) Wooters. Gene attended the School of Hard Knocks and graduated from Findlay High School in the Class of 1961. He married Tickie L. Hubbard on June 29, 1962. Gene and Tickie owned and operated Wooters Sport Shop in Findlay for nearly 50 years. Gene was community minded and served the Village of Findlay as Mayor for more than 20 years. He also served on the Village Board and as Village President. Gene was an accomplished musician, playing in a number of bands and providing live music to Findlay and surrounding communities when he and his wife operated the Ole Country Church music and dance hall in Findlay. He was a member of Faith Covenant Church in Findlay, the NRA, and enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing and hunting.

Gene is survived by his wife, Tickie of Findlay, IL; son, Curt Wooters (Melissa) of Findlay, IL; daughter, Michele Ohm (Scott) of Findlay, IL; brothers, Glenn Wooters of Findlay, IL and Dwayne Wooters; 5 grandchildren, Ashlee Pritchett (Jared) of Crawfordsville, IN, Alayna White (Matthew) of Pensacola, FL, Anna Wooters of Findlay, IL, Mason Ohm (Alivia) of Mt. Zion, IL, and Caity Ohm of Frisco, TX; and 3 great grandchildren, Palmer Pritchett, Nora Ohm, and Nash Ohm.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren.
