Eugene Lumpp

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 21, 2020 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Bob Herdes officiating. Visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Friday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the Shelby County Honor Guard.

Gene was born on June 10, 1925 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Edward H. and Nannie A. Pogue Lumpp. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1943. Gene was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II, serving aboard a troop and cargo ship U.S.S. Renville (APA-227). He was in the Invasion of Okinawa and was discharged at Great Lakes Naval Station in 1946. Gene then started farming, and farmed for 56 years. He was also a rural mail carrier for 26 years before retiring. Gene was an avid golfer, winning 44 golf trophies and hitting a “hole-in-one”, five times. Gene married Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Manning on July 25, 1948. She died on March 10, 2003.

He is survived by his daughter, Becky Eversole and husband Buster of Shelbyville, IL; grandson, Brian Eversole of Shelbyville, IL; great granddaughter, Mackenzie Perry of Boonville, IN; great grandson, Jared Davis of Shelbyville, IL; great great granddaughter, Zadie Lynn Nicole Marts; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Liz Lumpp; sons, Lyle Edward Lumpp and Bradley Lumpp; brother, Harry Lumpp (Eileen); sister, Nita Wright (Lloyd); and granddaughter, Brandy Lynn Eversole Davis.
