Eugene R Nippe

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2011 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg with Rev. Steven Becker officiating. Visitation from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg and one hour before services Monday in the church. Burial will be in Grace Cemetery, Strasburg, with military rites by Strasburg American Legion Post #289. Memorials may be given to Strasburg Community Improvement Fund or Shelby Humane Society.
Mr. Nippe was born on September 28, 1926 in Strasburg, IL, the son of Arthur William and Goldie M. Gill Nippe. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of WW II. Gene worked for Richland Twp. and retired from Hidden Springs State Park near Strasburg after 30 years in the maintenance department. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, Strasburg American Legion Post #289 and a life member of DuQuoin VFW Post #513. He married Laura Hampton, Dolores Reed Navis and Camellia Burgess.
Surviving are his daughters, Kimberly J. (Butch) Lynch of Shelbyville and Tammy Mette of Effingham; sons, Rodney (Carolyn) Nippe of Madisonville, KY and Randy (Linda) Nippe of Filmore, IN; step-daughters, Sharon Mabry of Springfield and Rhonda (Paul) Neathery of Strasburg; brothers, Harold (Zelma) Nippe of Stockton, CA, James Nippe of DuQuoin, IL and Roger (Deloris) Nippe of Tamaroa, IL; 15 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren, including Destiney Nichole Budd and Skiler Lee Oakley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three wives; and two grandsons, Steven Nippe and Chad Rhodes.
