Evelyn D Ground
(December 26, 1921 – September 11, 2011)
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2011 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Dan Eloe officiating. Visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to the Kitchen Hospitality Fund of the First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Ground was born on December 26, 1921 in the Community of Neal in Cumberland County, Illinois, the daughter of Walter St. John and Goldia Mae Greeson. She graduated from Stewardson Community High School on May 31, 1940. Evelyn married Walter Alva Ground on August 31, 1940 in St. Charles, Missouri. He preceded her in death on September 21, 1981. She was a Nurses Aide at Shelby Memorial Hospital until her retirement in October 1991. Evelyn was a long-time, faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Shelbyville, where she was active in Ladies Guild, Sunday school, Church Nursery and Card Ministry.
Surviving are her son, Gary Ground and wife Judy of Forsyth; daughter Cheryl Lynne McNeese and husband Gerald of Shelbyville; brother, Eugene St. John and wife Madge of Toledo; grandsons, Jason Ground and wife Jackie of Chatham, Todd McNeese of Stewardson and Tyson McNeese of Shelbyville; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; one brother; two sisters; and one grandson, Travis McNeese.
