Evelyn I Pfeiffer

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Lynette DeAtley officiating. Visitation from 12:30 p.m. Sunday until time of service. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to Shelbyville Community Dialysis or Westervelt United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Pfeiffer was born on September 6, 1917 in Middletown, Illinois, the daughter of Clinton V. and Emma Alice Shore Harden. Evelyn graduated from Springfield High School and then was employed at Illinois Bell Telephone Company for four years until her marriage in 1939. She later graduated from nursing school in Decatur and enjoyed a 37 year nursing career at the Shelbyville Hospital until retiring at age 79. She was a member of the Westervelt United Methodist Church, where she was the organist for several years. She also taught Sunday School and Bible School at the church. She was a former member of Shelby Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing and gardening. She married Aubrey Weakly Pfeiffer on October 6, 1939 in St. Charles, Missouri. He died on February 11, 1972.

Surviving are her two daughters, Linda Young and husband George of Loda, Illinois and Judy Ground and husband Gary of Forsyth, Illinois; one granddaughter, Tara Schanks and husband Donald of Shelbyville; one grandson, Jason Ground and wife Jackie of Chatham, Illinois; three great grandchildren, Tyler and Tayler Schanks and Morgan Ground; and one step-great granddaughter, Amber Morris Ground.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Aubrey; son, Thomas Pfeiffer on August 7, 1953; two sisters, Ruby Rogers and Catherine Nottingham; and one brother, Paul Harden.
