Floyd F Stremming
(February 15, 1922 – October 18, 2014)
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, October 23, 2014 in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bible Grove, IL with Rev. Ryan Eden and Rev. Gary Fortkamp officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday and one hour before services on Thursday both in the church. Graveside services will be held at Noon on Thursday in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Strasburg, IL with military rites by the Strasburg American Legion Post #289. Memorials may be given to The Lutheran Hour, Golden Circle Nutrition Program in Dieterich, IL or Ballard Nature Center in Altamont, IL. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL.
Mr. Stremming was born on February 15, 1922 in rural Strasburg, IL, the son of Theodore and Hulda M. (Nippe) Stremming. Floyd was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. While serving in the Army, he attended Ranken Technical College in St. Louis, MO. Floyd was a lifelong grain and dairy farmer in the Strasburg and Dieterich areas. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Bible Grove, IL, Men’s Club of the church and County Line Sod-Busters Antique Tractor Club. Floyd helped serve meals for the Golden Circle Nutrition Program in Dieterich, IL for over twenty years and also volunteered his time at the Ballard Nature Center in Altamont, IL. He married Elizabeth Latch on November 8, 1942.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; daughter, Phyllis Weiss and husband Jim of Strasburg, IL; daughter-in-law, Lynn Stremming of Jacksonville, IL; four grandchildren, Thad Stremming and wife Melissa of Jacksonville, IL, Hilary Stremming of Chicago, IL, Corrine Briscoe and husband Caleb of Roodhouse, IL and Jason Weiss and wife Nicole of Strasburg, IL; great grandchildren, Ella and Elizabeth Stremming both of Jacksonville, IL and Amelia and Ainsley Briscoe both of Roodhouse, IL; and special friends, John and Julie Traub of Dieterich, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Floyd Eugene “Gene” Stremming on June 30, 2003.
