Forrest R Hardin
(February 19, 1935 – January 05, 2009)
Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2009 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. The visitation will be followed by a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. with flag presentation by the Shelby County Honor Guard. A graveside service will be held later in Alto Pass Cemetery, Alto Pass, IL. Memorials may be given to the American Red Cross or the American Cancer Society.
Forrest was born on February 19, 1935 in Alto Pass, IL, the son of Merle and Verna Hagler Hardin. He worked for his father in his grocery store during high school and graduated from Alto Pass High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1957. Forrest attended Southeast Missouri State College from 1957-1960 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1960. He then continued his education at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and graduated with a Masters Degree in 1961. He began teaching at Shelbyville High School in 1961and retired on May 27, 1994. After retiring, he taught part time at Shelbyville High School from 1994-1996 and then served as a member of the school board from 1997-2005.
He enjoyed politics, watching Cubs games, and being a Grandpa. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shelbyville. He was very active in the Red Cross and loved helping others. He enjoyed being outdoors, painting, and took great pride in his yard work. He married Virginia M. Russell on October 12, 1962.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia; daughter, Tammy Getz and husband Bill of Winter Haven, FL; son, Ryan Hardin; four grandchildren, Jason Hubbartt and wife Ashley of Fort Bragg, NC, Erica Hubbartt of Shelbyville, and Bradi and Zachary Hardin of Lafayette, IN; and three great grandchildren, Kaleigh Hubbartt, Maddodox Hubbartt, and Alana McKittrick.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Larry Hardin.
He was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed.
