Forrest R West

Forrest Ray West, 89, of Shelbyville, died at 1:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2007 in Shelbyville Manor.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2007 in Howe & Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Rev. Kevin Ray officiating. Visitation will be two hours before services. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to the Shelby Humane Society.
Forrest was born on March 31, 1918 in Decatur, the son of Walter Roy and Jesse (Bryson) West. He resided in Shelbyville all of his life, where he was employed in earlier years at Ann Arbor Baler Company, Vincent Reed Trucking and Michaels Trucking. Later in life he was employed at J.E. Smithson Implement Company, Oliver Corporation and P & H Manufacturing where he retired in 1983 as maintenance supervisor. Upon retirement he opened his saw and blade sharpening business. He enjoyed working with his hands and he crafted many beautiful and unique items. He was a volunteer fireman and retired in 1983 as Captain after 35 years of service. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Shelbyville.
He married Hazel Marie Jones in Shelbyville on June 26, 1938. They observed their 69th wedding anniversary on Tuesday with their family. Forrest and his wife Hazel belonged to a square-dancing club for many years, he also loved camping and was a member of the Kaskaskia Kampers. As a younger man he enjoyed hunting with his father. He loved animals and spent some of his happiest times with his beloved dog, Rocky.
Surviving are his wife, Hazel; daughters, Joyce (Ray) Tull of Shelbyville and Loretta (Dennis) Ritchie of Mt. Zion; brother, Bill West of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Sean (Judy) Tull and children Alyssa and Cody of Shelby Twp., Michigan, Dawn (Bill) Drake and children Jeremy, Jessica and Taylor of Charleston, Whitney (Steve) Runge and daughter Morgan of Bement, Jill (Chris) Rapier and children Beau, Emmaline and Elliott of Champaign, Ericka (Donnie) Anderson and daughter Isabelle of Oak Park, Kirsten Clark and son Christian of Decatur and Joshua Ritchie and son Dalton of Macon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Carl, August & Kenneth West; and sisters, Opal Reed, Bonnie Stephens, Donna West and Marjorie Witt all of Shelbyville.
He was devoted to his wife and family and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
