Frances E Smart

Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2008 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Lakewood United Methodist Church, Gideons International or donor’s choice. Burial will be a later date in Eiler Cemetery, near Tower Hill, Illinois.

Frances was born on December 6, 1917 in Shelby County, Illinois, the daughter of Francis “Frank” and Mae Walker Sparr. She worked at the Defense Plant in Illiopolis, Mallory’s in Pana and retired from Crest Container Corporation in Shelbyville. After her retirement she was a caregiver. She married Walter Raymond Smart on February 8, 1936 in Shelbyville. He died on October 29, 1997.

Surviving are her son, Frank (Nancy) Smart of Pana; daughter, Beverly (Jerry) Martz of Lakewood; brothers, Herman (Betty) Sparr of Shelbyville, Roy (Karen) Smith of Henton and Donald (Judy) Smith of Tower Hill; sisters, Agnes Smart of Pana and Dorothy Pruett of Oregon; grandchildren, Don (Sharon) Martz of Quincy, Ron (Tracy) Martz of Eureka, Kelli (Jim) Standley of Staunton, Brad Martz of Shelbyville, Bill (Teresa) Smart of Arizona, Carla Smart of Pana, Julie (John) Kaufman of Decatur, and Franklin (Amanda) Smart of Indiana; 13 great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Fred Smith; grandson, Bob Smart; and one great grandson, Brock Martz.
