Gary Lee Martz, 80, of Westervelt, IL, passed away at 11:48 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2019 in his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 14, 2019 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Roger Quarton officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Casual attire is requested. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL with military rites. Memorials may be given to the Clarence Bixler American Legion Post #409 of Findlay, IL, First Christian Church of Westervelt, IL or St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.

Gary was born on December 1, 1938 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of Homer Walter and Delores Janice (Wade) Martz. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in the Class of 1956. Gary was a U. S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the Clarence Bixler American Legion Post #409 of Findlay, IL. He married Virginia “Ginnie Ann” Riley on April 2, 1966. Gary worked in the plumbing, heating and air conditioning industry nearly his entire work career. He worked for Bud Bly, Ernie Hardsaw, Orville West, Martz Plumbing and Heating in Shelbyville, IL, Reeders in Pana, IL, Hilton Plumbing and Heating in Pana, IL, and Ron Zinn at J & R Heating and Air Conditioning in Shelbyville, IL. Gary also worked in the maintenance department at Walmart in Shelbyville, IL.

He is survived by his wife, Ginnie Ann; sons, Shawne Martz (Tina) of Findlay ,IL, Bryan Martz (Amanda) of Westervelt, IL, and Leslie “Les” Martz of Findlay, IL; daughters, Janice Mae Rungren (Scott) of St. Charles, MO and Starla Dawn Owens (Jim) of Shelbyville, IL; brother, Gilbert “Lynn” Martz (Jeanette) of Shelbyville, IL; sister, Judy Vernon of Pana, IL; 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Robert Lee “Bobby” Martz; grandson, Jason Rungren; brother, William “Bill” Martz; and sisters, Nancy Bly and Donna Martz.
