Gary Paul Kelsey, 74, of Shelbyville, IL, formerly of San Diego, CA, passed away at 2:05 p.m. Sunday, November 10, 2019 in HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital, Shelbyville, IL.

A private remembrance will be held at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Burial will be in Lewis Cemetery, Tuscola, IL. Memorials may be given to the General Dacey Trail.

Gary was born in Champaign, IL on November 17, 1945, the son of Neil and Joyce Swanson Kelsey. Gary served in the Army playing trombone in the Army band and then received a Bachelor of Music Degree from Eastern Illinois University in trombone and composition. He started his love of music at the early age of 3, taking lessons from his grandfather, renowned Champaign vocalist, John A. Swanson. He began studying piano and trombone at the age of 7 and 9, respectively, and began composing at the age of 12. Gary and his wife, Janet (Squires) Kelsey, began Concerts by the Lake in Shelbyville and started a successful business, Mole Master, serving the Central Illinois area.

Surviving is one brother, Craig Kelsey, Middleburg, FL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janet; and brother, Stephen Kelsey.
