Gene Buckles

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 11, 2018 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 10, 2018 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and also one hour before services Thursday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery, Assumption, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the Ronald McDonald House or HSHS St. John’s Hospice.
Gene was born on December 18, 1931 in Springfield, IL, the son of Willard Alfred and Myrl Alice (Price) Buckles. He was a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War. Gene farmed in the Assumption area and was a supervisor at Caterpillar in Decatur, IL until his retirement. He was a member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church, Lakewood, IL, and enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping and mushroom hunting. Gene married Ellen J. Camac on October 1, 1952 and she preceded him in death on March 21, 1997.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Banning (Arnold) of Beecher City, IL; sons, Edward Buckles (Judy) of Decatur, IL and John Buckles (Shelby) of Owaneco, IL; daughter-in-law, Gail Buckles of Lakewood, IL; sister, Carolyn Niehause (Dwight) of Witt, IL; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ellen; son, Doug Buckles; brother, Alan Buckles; sister, Betty Buckles; and granddaughter, Amber Yarbrough.
