Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 12, 2015 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, IL with Rev. Steven Becker officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday in the church. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Strasburg, IL with military rites by Strasburg American Legion Post #289. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL. Memorials may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Crossroads Cancer Center, Effingham or Strasburg Community Foundation.
George was born on March 5, 1933 in rural Strasburg, IL, the son of Lloyd Stremming and Madonna Josephine Blake Schlechte. He was a graduate of Stewardson-Strasburg High School in the Class of 1951. George served in the U. S. Army from 1953-1955 and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. George was a retired building contractor. He loved farming and was still active in the family farming operation. George was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg, IL, St. Paul’s-Grace Lutheran Men’s Club, Strasburg, IL, Strasburg American Legion Post #289 and Shelby County Farm Bureau. He married Rosemary Schultz on March 17, 1957.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemary; sons, Gerry Schlechte and wife Dawn of Strasburg, IL and Bob Schlechte and wife Ronda of Strasburg, IL; brother, Warren Schlechte and wife Lois of Effingham, IL; sisters, Ramona Radloff of Strasburg, IL Bettie Mellendorf of Effingham, IL and Duckie Johnson and husband Ron of Stewardson, IL; step-grandson, Steven Polk and wife Megan of Mattoon, IL; grandchildren, Whitney Schlechte of Morton, IL, Becca, Megan, and Anna Schlechte all of Strasburg, IL; and step-great grandchildren, Waylon and Charlotte Schultz of Mattoon, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cindy Diane Schlechte; and brother-in-law, John Radloff.
