Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 29, 2016 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. Dan Seibert and Rev. David Middleton officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville, IL with military rites by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville or Shelbyville Lions Club.
George was born on September 6, 1932 in Chicago, IL, the son of Leon and Lucille (Mika) Stranc. He attended Chicago Vocational High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. George worked for Sieberg Jukebox in Chicago, American Airlines at Chicago Midway, Oliver Corporation in Shelbyville, IL and retired from Mueller Co. in Decatur, IL. He attended the First United Methodist Church of Shelbyville and was an avid woodworker. George was a member of the Shelbyville Lions Club and Kaskaskia Valley Bowhunters. He married Nancy Louise Griffith on June 1, 1958.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter, Cathleen Stranc Vano and husband Joe of Maryville, IL; son, Roger Stranc of Rembert, SC; brother-in-law, Robert Pattee of Kingwood, TX; sister-in-law, Elaine Hagan and husband Bob of Shelbyville, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leo Stranc; and sisters, MaryLou Penfield, Esther Pattee and Virginia Zamie.
