George Washington Walbright, III, 76, of Shelbyville, died at 12:50 a.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2010 in Shelby Memorial Hospital.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 27, 2010 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville with Gary Crowder officiating. Visitation from 12:30-2:00 p.m. Saturday. Interment will be in Masonic Cemetery, Metropolis, IL. Memorials may be given to Saving Orphaned Animals, Shelbyville, IL.

Mr. Walbright was born on October 22, 1933 in Danville, IL, the son of Dr. George Washington and Dora E. Thacker Walbright II. He graduated from high school in Metropolis, IL in 1951, attended Southern Illinois University and was a member of Kappa Delta Fraternity. In 1954 he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served in Germany during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge, he attended St. Louis School of Pharmacy in St. Louis, MO. He graduated with honors in June 1959. In July 1959 he and his father-in-law Loren Stanley Murrie purchased the Reisacher’s Drug Store in Shelbyville, which became the Corner Drug Store. In 1970 Mel Greer became a partner. They opened the Medical Center Pharmacy in Shelbyville in 1974. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville and sang in the John Hawk Community Choir. George enjoyed bowling, golf and the St. Louis Cardinals. He was active in Little League Baseball, Shelby County Republican Party and served on the Shelby County Board.

Surviving are his sons, David Walbright of Shelbyville and Mark Walbright and wife Linda of Shelbyville; mother, Dora Hohman of Metropolis, IL; grandchildren, Timothy, Daniel, Christopher, Brittany, David and Alexis Walbright; step-grandchildren, Jason and Carmen Woods; and step-great grandson, Cohen Woods.

He was preceded in death by his father; step-father, Alfie Hohman; and sister, Judy Reilly.
