Gerald A Harris
(November 22, 1928 – January 31, 2012)
Mr. Harris was born in Decatur, IL on November 22, 1928, a son of Paul Maxwell and Mary Bessie Harris. He grew up on a farm north of Beecher City. In 1945 he went to work for the Illinois Central Railroad as a Conductor. He retired from the railroad after 30 years, then operated Harris Trucking company in Cowden until his retirement around 1992 when he moved to McAllen, TX.
Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his parents, wife Frances, son David, and brothers James and Wilbur.
He is survived by his son Mike of Mattoon, brother Bob of Las Vegas, sisters Joan and Linda, eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. His brother Bob and best friend Millie were at his bedside when he died. Mr. Harris requested no services. Howe and Yockey Funeral Homes will handle burial arrangements. He will be laid to rest next to Frances in Mound Cemetery at Cowden.
