Gerald G. “Jake” Shambo, 90, of Shelbyville, IL, formerly of Crete, IL, died at 4:17 a.m. Tuesday, December 13, 2011 in Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 in Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Shelbyville, IL with Rev. E. Wade Helmkamp officiating. Visitation from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Friday in the church. Entombment will be at 3:00 p.m. Friday in Chapel of Peace Mausoleum, located in Skyline Memorial Park, Monee, IL. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home in Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Shelbyville, IL.

Mr. Shambo was born on August 1, 1921 in Steger, Illinois, the son of Arthur J. and Alyda M. (Koester) Shambo. He married Bernice R. Sharp on June 7, 1942. He was a production manager for AMSCO Steel Mill in Chicago Heights, IL until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice Shambo of Shelbyville, IL; sons, Gerald Shambo, Jr. and wife Linda of Naperville, IL, John Shambo and wife Barbara of Shelbyville, IL and James Shambo and wife Elaine of Colorado Springs, CO; sisters, Lorraine Pelock of Country Club Hills, IL, Bonnie Wallace of Hayward, CA and Barbara Mason and husband Don of Neoga, IL; seven grandchildren, Mark Shambo and wife Judy, John Shambo, Jr. and wife Jody, Erik Shambo and wife Kim, Ryan Shambo and wife Kerrie, Jason Shambo, Amy Smylie and husband Shannon and Rebecca Murphy; and eleven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Arthur “Bud” Shambo; and great grandson, Jacob Shambo.
