Gladys Ellen Colbert, 83, of Shelbyville, IL, died at 7:20 a.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2014 in her residence.

Private graveside services will be held Monday, October 20, 2014 in Graceland Cemetery, Decatur, IL. Memorials may be given to the Shelby County Senior Center, American Cancer Society or Saving Orphaned Animals. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL.

Gladys was born on May 23, 1931 in Peoria, IL, the daughter of Wilbur S. and Sybil Ellen Darnell Deck. She attended Stephen Decatur High School in Decatur, IL and then graduated from Macon County School of Nursing. Gladys was an LPN, working at the Restorium in Shelbyville, St. Vincent’s Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, Shelby Memorial Hospital and Shelbyville Manor. Following her retirement, she owned and operated Stuff–N-Things Antiques in Shelbyville. Later, she and her husband Don owned and operated the Quality Market in Shelbyville for many years. Gladys enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, camping, antiquing and cooking. She will be remembered for the care that she gave to her husband, children, grandchildren and mother. Gladys married Donald Gene Colbert on May 9, 1949. He died on February 4, 2004.

She is survived by her son, Steve Colbert and wife Ellen of Shelbyville, IL; brother, Wilbur Deck of Redondo Beach, CA; grandchildren, Donald S. Colbert, Angela C. Dippel, and Matthew Coartney and wife Ashley; and great grandchildren, Madison C. Colbert, Griffin S. Colbert, Brittany Agney and Drake Haycraft.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Gene Colbert; and daughters, Carol Ann Colbert and Jacqueline S. Colbert Oruwari.
