Glenn Matlock
(June 16, 1930 – January 20, 2008)
Celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2008 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Rev. Daniel Matlock and Rev. Wayne London will officiate. Visitation from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday and one hour before services on Wednesday. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery, near Assumption, Illinois. Memorials may be given to Little Flock Baptist Church, Quad County Hospice or Gideon’s International.
Mr. Matlock was born on June 16, 1930 near Assumption, Illinois, the son of Clarence Gregory and Evelyn Marie Reed Matlock. He graduated from Moweaqua High School in 1948 and started farming. He served in the National Guard for six years. During that time, he was deployed to the Korean War where he was promoted to Sergeant. After he came home, he married Wilma Jean Storey on July 22, 1955 following her graduation from nursing school. As a member of Little Flock Baptist Church, Glenn served as deacon and trustee most of his years. He loved the Lord, his wife of 52 years, his children and their spouses, grandchildren, four great grandchildren, church family and dear friends. He loved farming, traveling, John Deere machinery, his home and visiting with friends and family. He was privileged to see many great changes advance through the 56 years of farming.
Surviving are his wife, Wilma; sons, Mark (Kathy) Matlock of Decatur and Mike (Debbie) Matlock of Assumption; daughter, Mary (Tim) Smith of Moweaqua; grandchildren, Angie Matlock and Christopher (Joanna) Matlock all of Decatur, Daniel (Kelly) Matlock of Austin, TX, Michelle Matlock of Las Vegas, NV, David (Emily) Matlock of Decatur, Rachel Smith of St. Louis and Joshua Smith of Moweaqua; four precious great grandchildren, William and Josiah Matlock of Decatur and Elena and Jackson Matlock of Austin, TX; brothers, Lyle (Mary) Matlock and Don (Doris) Matlock all of Shelbyville; and sisters, Jean (Carl) Wooters of Shelbyville and Lois (Don) Sanner and Judy (John) Burch all of Decatur.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Verne Matlock; and sister, Mary Allen.
The family would like to thank the nurses of Quad County Hospice and Cancer Care in Decatur, family and friends for all their cards and prayers during Glenn’s illness.
