Guy William Juhnke, 81, of Effingham, IL, formerly of Orland Park and Strasburg, IL, died at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2017 in his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2017 in Faith Lutheran Church, Shumway, IL, with Pastor Jason Rensner officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Friday in the church. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Strasburg, IL, with military rites by Strasburg American Legion Post #289. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL. Memorials may be given to Guardian Angel Daycare, Teutopolis, IL, Faith Lutheran Church, Shumway, IL or Lincolnland Hospice.

Guy was born on June 4, 1935 in Windsor, IL, the son of William V. and Florence (Stremming) Juhnke. Guy was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Strasburg, IL. He graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School in the Class of 1953. Guy was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving as a high-speed radio operator. After completing his military service, Guy returned to Strasburg to join his father and brother in business at the Juhnke Feed Mill. In 1977, Guy joined Yellow Freight Systems, retiring from the Chicago Ridge operation center in 1997. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Shumway, IL and Strasburg American Legion Post #289. Guy married Frieda Faye Durbin on December 29, 1957 in services at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Strasburg, IL officiated by Pastor G.A. Leuck.

He is survived by his wife, Frieda; son, Michael Guy Juhnke of Mt. Juliet, TN; daughter, Cathy Belcher and husband Allen of Mulberry Grove, IL; grandchildren, Brandon Ogle of Nokomis, IL, Caleb Ogle of Strasburg, IL, Chelsea Icenogle and husband Jonathan of Neoga, IL, and Emily Juhnke and Evan Juhnke both of Mt. Juliet, TN; and great grandchildren, Jackson, Addison and Alivia Icenogle all of Neoga, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Paul E. Juhnke; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Juhnke.
