Gwendolyn E. “Gwen” Dearth, 96, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 12:53 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 in Shelbyville Manor, Shelbyville, IL.

No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to the General Dacey Trail, Shelbyville, IL and mailed to Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, 415 N. Broadway, Shelbyville, IL 62565.

Gwen was born on September 28, 1923 in Manchester, New Hampshire, the daughter of Milton A. and Marguerite (Sweet) Doubleday. She was a graduate of the Pinkerton Academy in New Hampshire and served as a butcher in the United States Naval Reserve “WAVES” during WWII. She earned the rank of Ship’s Cook Third Class. She married Jay Max Mabry and they had two children, Shelley and Jay. She later married William Brockway Dearth on July 28, 1972 and he preceded her in death on February 28, 2000. Gwen managed the Country Clubs in Shelbyville and Vandalia and later worked as a cook for Shelby County Community Services for over 20 years.

Gwen is survived by her daughter, Shelley Koehler (Ron) of Shelbyville, IL; step-daughter, Jody Sperry (Warren) of Paris, IL; five grandchildren, Wendy Yockey (Jerry), Brett Koehler (Amy), and Kris Koehler (Lia) all of Shelbyville, IL, Jay Max Mabry, and Kevin Mabry; three step-grandchildren, Martin Sperry, Adam Sperry, and Emily Sperry; and four great grandchildren, Molly Pruemer (Levi), Maggy Prather (Lucas), and Tanner and Tessa Koehler.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son, Jay Mabry; and brother, Bud Doubleday.
